'Supporting Filipino art is one of the pillars of Foot Locker'
Foot Locker opened its first-ever store in the Philippines in December 2022. The flagship Foot Locker store is located at Glorietta Ayala Mall in Makati City. Other branches of the store opened later around Metro Manila and in other parts of the country including Cebu and Bacolod.
Each Foot Locker Philippines store is decked with art murals in its interiors. The company has been collaborating with local artists to create these murals. Filipino toy designer Quiccs Maiquez was the artist they collaborated with for the opening of its inaugural store in the country.
"This has been a series of collabs. We started last December 2022. When we opened Foot Locker Philippines, the first ever Foot Locker Philippines, which is in Glorietta. So when we were in Glorietta, like a few months before that we were already conceptualizing, the murals that are in Foot Locker," Foot Locker Philippines Senior Marketing Manager Jan De Los Reyes said during Quiccs' x Adidas x Foot Locker collection launch event in December last year.
"So if you go there, there are a few pillars that are already by Quiccs. And then in the process is, of course, making the TEQ63, the lifesize TEQ63, and the smaller figure TEQ63. So it's a year-long process for all of us. Um, during the May collab, we unveiled the big lifesize TEQ63," she added.
It was Adidas Philippines that reached out to the company when they began their first of many collaborations. Foot Locker Philippines works closely with its brand partners like Adidas Philippines to come up with these concepts and ideas. So far, they've had a successful partnership since.
"Well, it's actually Adidas who came to us because they are 1 of our brand Partners. As, you know, we're working strongly hand in hand with all the brand Partners in Foot Locker, including Adidas," De Los Reyes explained. "So, when they came up with the idea, we were definitely game, cuz' Foot Locker naman. The culture – the secret culture – it's all about being ingrained in the Filipino culture, as well as the sneaker culture, as well as the lifestyle."
Since Foot Locker Philippines' first collaboration with Quiccs, the company has reached out and partnered with other local artists to create murals for their other branches not just in Metro Manila, but in other locations in the country as well. Moreover, supporting local artists is one of the pillars of Foot Locker Philippines.
"We've always been collaborating with a lot of artists. In Foot Locker, not specifically with the brand, but just Foot Locker itself," she said. "When you go to Cebu, partnered with a different artist. So when we went to Bacolod, when you go to Bacolod, we also have an artist, a different artist there that you'll see in the murals."
"Supporting Filipino art is definitely one of the pillars of Foot Locker," the Senior Marketing Manager for Foot Locker Philippines added.
