Gilas Pilipinas had to overcome a huge deficit in the second half to defeat the Macau Black Bears, 103 - 98, in an exhibition game ahead of the FIBA Asia Cup on Monday, July 28, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Naturalized import Justin Brownlee led the nationals in a double-double performance with 32 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, one steal, and a block.

The visiting Macau Black Bears dominated the home team offensively in the first half. Brownlee gave credit to Macau's shooting that almost scored an upset win over Gilas Pilipinas at a friendly match on Monday.

"It was a good game. Well, Macau, they came out, played really hard. Uh, obviously that first half they gave us, you know, they put on an offensive clinic on us, you know, scoring," Brownlee said after their final practice before flying to Jeddah on Wednesday. "I think it was 62 points or whatever, 64 points, whatever it was. But we got to give us a lot of credit, how we bounced back and, you know, how we answered them, you know, a lot of credit to the team and the hard work we've been putting in these last couple weeks, and hopefully, just keep paying off for [us] moving forward."

Fil-am Quentin Millora-Brown made an impact for the Macau side with his playmaking, rebounding, and shot blocking. Brownlee was left impressed with the former UP Fighting Maroon.

"Yeah, I thought it was very impressive. You know, obviously, they had a lot of guys, that was impressive on the team. It was a good showcase for his skills," The Gilas Pilipinas naturalized Filipino said. "I was talking to a couple of guys after the game. I was like, I really, I really like him. He's very active. But yeah, he seemed like he can move very well as a big man, and seemed like he had a great attitude, you know. And that's really big for young players, you know. And he works extremely hard offensively rebounding. So I think he has a bright future."

Despite the news of FIBA denying Millora-Brown to play for the Philippines as a local, Brownlee still hopes to have him with Gilas in the future.

"Oh, 100%. I think, like I said, he got a ton of potential. He's young, and it seemed like he had a great attitude towards the game," Brownlee shared. "So, you know, it'll be great to see him on a part of your team in the future or the near future or whenever."
