The 6-foot-6 shooting guard from New York played his NBA final season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers in 2023. Then, on October 10, 2024, Danny Green announced his retirement as a player on social media.
Green is currently a broadcaster for Spectrum Sportsnet and ESPN Radio. His podcast "Inside The Green Room," co-hosted by his longtime friend and sports broadcaster, Harrison Sanford, has been active since 2018. Additionally, Green is also one of the hosts of the "No Fouls Given" podcast with Celtics legend and NBA champion Paul Pierce.
Danny Green, who won NBA championships with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, the Toronto Raptors in 2019, and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, is back in the Philippines for the weekend since his first visit to the country back in 2015. He said, "It's an amazing, very humbling accomplishment" to be part of the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame.
"It's an amazing, very humbling accomplishment. I never, something I never thought I'd be a part of, to be considered in any Hall of Fame. So, it's a true honor to be considered to be, you know, entering and be inducted," Green said during the media event with local journalists at the NBA Store Philippines in Megamall, Mandaluyong City, on Friday, March 13.
"I got the call a couple of months back, trying to find ways to get, I'm so far, living in California, to make it there during that time. But it's a truly humbling and unbelievable accomplishment or experience. And just to be inducted, the words can't really put it, it's hard to put in words with that feeling, what it's meant to me as a young kid growing up in New York," the three-time NBA champion added.
For Danny Green, Doing Podcasts Have Helped Him Transition Into Broadcasting
Danny Green has been doing podcasts for years. He and his longtime friend and sports broadcaster Harrison Sanford started their podcast in 2018 called "Inside The Green Room". Since his retirement in 2024, Green shifted to media work.
Currently, he's a broadcaster for Spectrum Sportsnet, covering mostly LA Lakers games, and ESPN Radio alongside Marc Kestecher. Green also hosts another podcast entitled "No Fouls Given" with Celtics legend and NBA champion Paul Pierce.
For Danny Green, who graduated with a degree in communications at University of North Carolina in 2009, the transition to being a broadcaster made it easier for him all thanks to his years of experience in podcasting.
"Very different. Not a huge transition but it is different. But learning a lot from doing the podcast have helped me transition into doing media," the 2009 NCAA champion said during his media availability at NBA Store Philippines in Mandaluyong City with local journalists. "But when you're talking on TV, it's very different than when you're talking on podcast. But those reps have helped me how to answer questions, learn how to ask the right questions."
"The transition has been a lot easier because I've done podcasts. So, yeah, podcasting is different but it's definitely helped me, kind of get used to being in front of the camera," Green added.
